Whether you are a sports enthusiast or you just enjoy watching the SEA Games, you should know that there are some exciting prizes that you can get for being a spectator. One of them is the Singapore prize. This award was founded in 2008, and it gives the best players a prize for their outstanding performances.
SEA Games
During the 31st SEA Games held in Bac Ninh Province in Vietnam, five gold medals were won by the Vietnamese. The host and the Singaporean athletes shared a bronze medal. The Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia also won medals.
Vietnam aimed to secure five gold medals at the Games. The team was led by its general secretary Pham Hong Khanh, and head coach Kin Wai Seck. Its men’s team beat Indonesia 3-0 and took a share of the bronze.
Vietnam’s athletes in gymnastics earned bronze in the men’s asymmetric bar event and men’s freestyle gymnastics. The women’s team finished third. Its men’s gymnastics team also won silver in the men’s break dance.
The SEA Games 31 were held in the northern province of Bac Ninh, which is located 320 km from the capital city, Hanoi. The event attracted 560 athletes from 35 sports. The athletes set 15 Games records and 27 personal best performances.
Among the gold medal winners were Feng Tianwei, the paddler. He was expected to be the last competitive athlete at the Games. He won three gold medals in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and is expected to retire after these Games.
National Day Awards
During National Day celebrations at Istana on Friday, the country’s top diplomat was awarded a Distinguished Service Order, while four foreign business leaders made it on the list of 67 recipients of the Public Service Star award. While these awards may not be as prestigious as the Order of Temasek, they are also highly regarded.
The National Day Awards are designed to recognise merit and service to the country. They are awarded to individuals who have made notable contributions to Singapore. These contributions may range from service in the military to contributions to the legal and civil service sectors. During the celebrations, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam extended congratulations to all award recipients.
The Distinguished Service Order, or DSO as it is also known, is the highest honour bestowed on Singapore’s leading public servants. In honour of the Distinguished Service Order, the PSC awards a Distinguished Service Medal to four recipients, while the PSC also confers a Commendation Medal to a lucky member of the Singapore Police Force.
SOSC Awards
Founded in 1947, the Singapore Olympic and Sports Council was later renamed to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC). It is now a national paralympic committee and is responsible for Team Singapore at international games. The Awards were introduced in 1967 for sporting achievements and were held for the first time in 1968.
The awards were then revised in 2004 to recognise athletes, coaches, associations and other aspects of the sports fraternity. Nominations were invited from 25 national sports associations. The judging panel was chaired by the president of SNOC. There were eight judges from the sporting, business, government and media sectors. They were selected based on criteria such as medal tally in international and regional games, conduct, and athletes’ dedication to training.
The awards also recognise contributions to the sciences of Complex Systems. These included a junior scientific award for young researchers under the age of 35.
The senior scientific award went to Alessandro Vespignani, who has made seminal contributions to Complex Systems and Network sciences during the past two decades. He has also contributed to the community building within the field.
TIME100 Impact Awards
Earlier this year, Time magazine launched the TIME100 Impact Awards, a new prize for recognizing those who use their influence to create a more sustainable future. This year, the winners were announced in Dubai and Singapore. The award is a continuation of the magazine’s annual list of the “most influential” individuals in the world. Those honored include Tony Elumelu, philanthropist; Huda Kattan, entrepreneur; Sarah Al Amiri, United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Advanced Technology; David Adjaye, architect; and Alia Bhatt, actor and Brahmastra star.
The TIME100 Impact Awards will take place in Singapore on Sunday, October 2. It is hosted in partnership with Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Economic Development Board, National Gallery Singapore, and the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. This is the second year the award has been held in Singapore.
